As spring breathes new life into Douglas County, it also ushers in a new season of outdoor sculpture through the Art Encounters program — a year-long public art initiative now entering its new cycle. Beginning in May, fresh installations will pop up across communities like Castle Rock, Lone Tree, Parker, Highlands Ranch, and Roxborough, while April marks the final chance to view last year’s exhibit.
Since its launch in 2007 by the Douglas County Cultural Council, Art Encounters has brought over 100 sculptures to public spaces, fostering a love of the arts, boosting community pride, and supporting local artists. Sculptures are “leased” for a year, giving communities a chance to enjoy rotating pieces, and sometimes even adopt them permanently.
Artist Annette Coleman, whose kinetic and mosaic works have charmed viewers across the region, is one of many artists who have benefited from Colorado’s vibrant art rental programs — among the most robust in the nation.
