As people have been showing increased interest, the idea of a green burial has been making more headlines. Our team at Seven Stones has revisited some of our best practices, and recently refined our Green Burial Guidelines. This is what you need to know:
The Green Burial Council depicts Green burial as a more natural, environmentally conscious approach to death care. It prioritizes placing the body directly in the Earth, forgoing embalming, and using biodegradable materials.
At Seven Stones we welcome green, natural, and eco-friendly burial requests. The accepted vessels for green burials include:
- Natural Wood Casket
- Wicker Basket Casket (Typically made from Bamboo, Jute, Seagrass, Willow, Natural Leaf)
- Shroud (Cotton, Linen Wood) with Willow Carrier or Wooden Support Board
- Specifics to keep in mind when deciding on the right casket or shroud:
- If possible, plan ahead, and pick out materials sourced locally and sustainably
- Choose biodegradable material(s): Natural Wood, Bamboo, Jute, Seagrass, Willow, Natural Leaf, Cotton, Linen, Wool
- Understand Cemetery Requirements
Seven Stones allows traditional casket burial, green burial, and cremation interments. Each manner entails their own set of best practices, procedures, and requirements. For a Green Burial at Seven Stones, we require a solid carrier (casket, carrier, or wooden board inside a shroud) for the safety of transport and lowering.
