The newest Denver event venue is an unexpected location: Seven Stones Botanical Gardens Cemetery is an increasingly popular spot for fitness classes, workshops, networking and reunions.
Seven Stones was a welcoming outdoor venue for the 30-year Family Reunion Picnic for Chatfield Senior High School’s first graduating class. Graduates were invited to bring their families for an afternoon of fun in the sun. About 75 guests enjoyed barbecue, corn hole and baseball while catching up with old friends…and they’re already looking forward to the next picnic.
One of our Founding Family members ‘marked the moment’ of her career change with a unique rite of passage at Seven Stones. Eileen Forlenza celebrated the beginning of a new chapter with a special ceremony led by the Rev. Mary Jo Honiotes in which friends and family individually shared her greatest strengths, followed by a ceremonial walk over the bridge with her family by her side. She was presented with an beautiful oar, annotating her strengths, to guide her journey forward, encouraging her to let go of any worries as she embarks on new adventures and successes.
The open spaces of Seven Stones Botanical Gardens Cemetery provide room for expansive reflection, mourning and growing, facilitated by the Seasons of Letting Go Workshops. The recent summer workshop focused on identifying the busyness that gives you energy vs. the busyness that drains it. The afternoon of nurturing and allowing ended with a chance to dip toes into the wading pool and sand, honoring the playful spirit of the season. The fall workshop, scheduled for 1-4 p.m. October 14, will focus on Letting Go of Regrets and Mistakes: The Art of Acceptance.
The shade of the Committal Shelter and the sunny patio around the firepit are refreshing locations for yoga classes. Breathtaking views, gentle breezes, the babbling brook and chirping birds add to the restorative mindfulness of the practice. Our lineup is regularly updated on our Facebook page. We plan to soon add Tai Chi to the schedule!
Other groups have also found an ideal event venue in Seven Stones:
• Denver-area financial advisors have used the space for client appreciation gatherings.
• A group of spiritual leaders and ministers are hosting their monthly lunch gathering/workshop under the Committal Shelter in August.
• In September, the cemetery will be the site of a Second Friday art walk featuring Roxborough Arts Council and Douglas County Art Encounters artists.
• Groups such as the Chamber of Commerce of Highlands Ranch and Roxborough Business Association regularly host business networking events amid the blossoms, streams, stones and grasses of our botanical gardens.
The natural surroundings in the foothills of the Rockies are an inspirational setting not just for remembering loved ones but also for celebrating life. Those seeking a peaceful outdoor Denver event venue have been both surprised and captivated by the opportunities at Seven Stones Chatfield Botanical Gardens Cemetery.
